Actually, most Authbahns have a "Tempolimit" of 80mph[1] and there is a increasing amount of construction (especially in the former DDR zone) and traffic congestion (Stau).

I've driven most of the length of Germany and back including rush hour traffic in Berlin and other major German cities. One thing that is *very* different compared to Phoenix is that the average German driver is much more considerate. Trying to change lanes during rush hour in Phoenix is like a stand off at high noon. A German driver will almost always let you in as soon as you signal.
