Thank you all for your help. I fixed the problem by moving to Apache 2. Now
everything works just fine.

What does "display" mean?
Does the PHP program run and its results are displayed in browser?
Or is the original script displayed (because it didn't run)?
You may want to show us your httpd.conf again.
As for myself, I have setup PHP many times. It is very easy and only takes
a few steps (in most cases).
