Alan,
I read somewhere that a 2.4 gHz Pent with 3 Gig RAM will support 100 to 120
thin clients. I assume this depends on what they are running (CAD/CAM
excluded)
Somewhere in my notes I have numbers on server RAM requirements (as in) so
much RAM for the server to do it's work and so much for each client (32 meg
I think). I am thinking that 256 meg (can you buy 128 meg these days) would
serve you well ( as in overkill).
I built my LTSP system (with 3 thin clients) using:
Server:
http://www.ltsp.org/ as opposed to (http://www.k12ltps.org)
(No real reason, it's the one I saw first.)
AMD 1800 (way overkill)
512 Ram (way overkill)
Thin Clients:
CPU (What ever was avail)
200 mHz P2
500 mHz K6/2 etc.)
32 MB Ram (worked well)
NIC = Linksys LNE100TX v2.0
NIC Boot ROM = Linksys LNE100TX v2.0
from http://www.disklessworkstations.com/
ElChepo Vidio Card from Fry's (SIS?? or something like that)
If you want I'll open one of the boxes and look
Sticking with OpenOffice.org this worked very very well.
Talk to me off List if you want help, I could enjoy this right now.
You're going to have fun!!!
George
