Subject: OT:Free Compaq 386 portable computer
(OK, I'm sure there is a Linux kernel somewhere that can run on it but I
don't want to take on that project.)

Digging in my old stuff, I have found my Compaq 386/20 "lunch box"
computer. You remember, the ones with a red plasma screen? Just like
this one: http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=1065&st=1
Only mine has the two ISA slot expansion unit on the back. I cranked it
up but it would not complete the boot from the hard drive. The original
Compaq diagnostic 5.25" diskette booted fine and all tests ran without
errors. The DOS 3.21 boot diskette booted and after formatting the hard
drive, it now boots fine too. As far as I can tell, it is fully
functional.

Basic specs:
- 20MHz 386 CPU
- 4MB RAM
- 1.2MB 5.25" floppy disk drive
- 40MB hard disk drive
- Screen is clean and works as well as ever
- Two ISA slot expansion pack with VGA card in it
- Case is clean and perfect except the disk drive bay cover is missing. I
took it off long ago (Wonder why?) and cannot find it.
- Keyboard is perfect.
- Original Compaq Diagnostic diskette and two Compaq DOS 3.21 diskettes
included, in a plastic case and no extra charge!

If anyone is hankering for the nostalgic DOS days of the late 80's and
wants a computer that was at the peak of technology when it was released,
this is one!

Free to a home, good or bad.

Alan
