Monitors are only good for so long. One of the first reccommendations that Steve Burger, a Photoshop consultants I work with, makes for a client is to tell them to buy a new monitor every 3 or 4 years. (CRTs still have an edge for graphics work).

When they do, they immediately notice that their images are sharper on screen and the colors are truer than their 3 year old monitor.
