I don't know of any PCMCIA sound cards, period.

Do you mean PCI?

Just go get the list of present support from alsa. The 2.6 kernel integrates
alsa drivers, so it's probably accurate.

A problem is when you buy those $12 Tchang Zu cards (the ones where it
announces "4D 8.2 positional sound and makes your tea too!" on the box) rarely do
you see the chipset listed on the box. Pray for a good return policy.

I used a CMI8738 card for a while, decent basic card, but apparently some
driver problems in Windows

Most onboard sound's supported too. I recall SiS 735 worked fine, but a hard
setup, a long time ago. 745 I think had detection problems, and apparently
recent VIA stuff works too (both the old 686A southbridge series and the newer
ones)
