OT Using Different Memory Types as in speed

Has anyone tried using PC2700 (or 3100) memory in a MOBO designed for
PC2100.

1) Do they physically fit.

2) Is there a timing problem using he faster memory in the slower board?

This comes under the "test all things and hold fast to that which is
true" thing.
