my initial thought...
echo "rm -fr $HOME/.gnome2/sess*" \n >> $HOME/.bash_profile

then I was thinking that this would be a problem every time he opens a
new terminal so I would consider putting it at the start of
$HOME/.xclients-default

I would probably search Sun Java Desktop Users mail list for other
solutions to similar problem. It's doubtful that this is the only user
with this problem.
