Simple fix, although expensive: Purchase PartitionMagic and use it to
create a 100 MB partition (on an old machine, but this a the beginning of
the fixed HD, newer machines can have this anywhere). Copy /boot to this
partition and update GRUB's config file to search for the kernel on this
partition ("root(hd0,0)": this "root" is the /boot mount point).
