Make the switch 10.0.0.1. Make the NIC 10.0.0.2. Make both netmasks
255.255.255.0. That will keep things simple.

BTW, the only reason the switch needs an IP address at all is for remote
access to the switch (without a serial console cable). Two hosts can
communicate across the switch without the switch having an IP address.
