Subject: Installfest is getting coverage [Re: *** Arizona Technology & Business Connections 06/15/04]

I've included a full CC of the latest "big" announcement compilation that
AZIPA / AzTech / Tech Oasis distributes weekly. Everyone who posts an
event announcement relevant to that community gets included in this
calendar. As you will see below, they placed the installfest in their
"featured events" column. I believe I did nothing special to get this
event such notice, I only forwarded to them ONCE the same press release
that you have all seen.

A reminder that the installfest is this Saturday. Hope to see you all
there, let's have some fun!

Last time, most everyone concentrated on the free givaways :) We never
did, however, get any of the demo equipment collected or running. Here is
a full list of the demos:

[demos]
o new Linux installs with e-mail, web, network printer, office.
o Samba demo with Windows machines that operate on files through apps
(e.g. a common Excel sheet or Quicken file)
o LTSP demo for small business with data entry terminals.
o webserver, phpgroupware, jabber, e-mail server, spamassassin demo for
small business.
o Multimedia editing: images, audio, video.

This list is equipment neutral: Some physical machines can fill any
combination of all these roles. We had some people who were willing to
contribute equipment and time to this, but they didn't show up last time.
Perhaps we'll get some of these going this time? Alan kept the leftover
equipment from last time's givaways, those could surely be used.

The reason to have these demos is to have something ready to show the
uninitiated, especially PHB's. One good way of turning away the PHB is to
not have anything ready! Their imagination is rather thin, and they don't
see the connection between a working desktop and a working desktop that
suits them.

See you all Saturday!
