No, the patches are just standard diffs that you apply with the patch
command. Generally, you can apply a patch like this:
user@host:/usr/src/linux$ zcat ../patch-file-name.gz |patch -p1 -s
"zcat" uncompresses the gzipped file and sends it to standard output.
Then it's send to patch(1)'s standard input. "-p1" means to skip one
directory level at the beginning of the filenames -- if you look at the
file using zless, you'll see why. And I dislike seeing the filenames
scroll by; I prefer only being told if there's an error, which is what
the "-s" ("silent") option does.
