RJ45-end of console cable into Console port on switch, Serial-end into serial port of computer. Then use your favorite terminal software and configure it to access your serial port. IMPORTANT -> Be sure your terminal app is configured for 9600 8-N-1. Power on the switch, and you should see a fancy little text-based config menu pop up! I typically use Hyperterminal from a Windows laptop. But any terminal application will work. Many moons ago I used Telex (I think that's what it was called). I think I used minicom under Linux. That was like 10 years ago though.
