Subject: Installfest success
Thank you one and all for the success of Saturday's installfest.

Attendance was about twelve pluggers and seven users, and the three
Fab4Linux guys. A bit lopsided because of Dean's givaways

The feeling of the meeting was the same as any other PLUG meeting, with
two very positive exceptions. One was the time we had, 10am-6pm. We
could get much more done, and have much more discourse, than a regular
meeting. People said they would rather attend the installfest for this
reason alone. The other was the non-PLUG interface. Users dropping in
with random systems needing who knows what done. This is very refreshing
for the techies, as it poses unique challenges every time a new user drops
in.

So, essentially, we have a new PLUG meeting with a different purpose. The
full complement of meetings: have two 'speech' type meetings, one on each
side of town, a shoptalk meeting, a beer^H^H^H^Hcoffee circle meeting (BAH
N33D B33R), and now a bring-your-system-and-bang-on-it meeting. Devry has
a charge-the-pointy-haired-boss-a-bundle-so-he-listens presentation as
well, I'd like to know how that went.

There was some confusion as to the time of the installfest. Because of
this, a bunch of PLUGgers arrived late, when all the users left. Again,
10am-6pm. The plug website says 10am _duration_ 6hrs, this technically
should be duration 8hrs. Nuke is also very bad at the calendar display.
The extra text should be placed in the textarea.

One other thing for the PLUG site: I thing the mail system for
plug-discuss has suspended some of my earlier messages because I included
a bunch of cc:'s. Is there any way you can check this? These were the
press releases, revised and corrected for style and grammar.

Fab4Linux was peddling their w4r3z. Fab4Linux is a company I have known
about since I first attended TiE in April 2003. The one-line schpiel:
"CLI->GUI->QUI". Their claim is they made a new user interface that is
much more productive. I haven't tried it yet, let me know if you have

My only role in the installfest was to spread the word. If you hadn't
shown up, the installfest would have never happened. Thanks again
everyone! I will continue to be the public interface, and send press
releases as well as field questions.
