This is better than kppp if it is only a home computer (secure).
Firstly, you will have to configure wvdial to work.
Second, your user needs to be in the sudo list.
Then create the following executable file:
[Desktop Entry]
Comment=Modem
Comment[en_US]=
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=sudo wvdial
GenericName=
GenericName[en_US]=
Icon=ktalkd.xpm
MimeType=
Name=Modem
Name[en_US]=Modem
ServiceTypes=
Type=Application
and save it to your desktop.
It will be faster than kppp and you won't have to do anything but click an
icon.
