That's the problem, assuming you're using 2.4 or lower. The IDE CD-ROM
driver grabs ahold of the device, so ide-scsi never gets a crack at it.

I'm guessing you added the CD writer after you installed. When you
installed Mandrake 9.1, it was already there, so the installer set it up
for you. At least, that's what I think probably happened here. (You
can correct any incorrect assumptions I may have made, if you want.)
