Subject: noapic, and removable hard drives
What do the options 'noapic' and 'nolapic' do anyway. I googled and found
lots of pages saying try those options if you get lost interrupt errors. But
I didn't find anything on what they actually do.

Anyone use removable hard drives? I have a couple IDE drives in removable
carriers. The main drive is mounted in the system (not in a carrier, this is
has the OS), the other three drives swap out in the carriers (one for
backups, one from my laptop, and one for movies). The setup worked fine
before. I could run the system with just the one drive, or with either of
the removable drives in.
I upgraded the main drive that is mounted in the system. Now I can't start
the system without having one of those removable drives in system. On the
old drive, there were two jumper settings: 'master/single' and 'slave'. On
the new drive there are four settings: 'master', 'single', 'slave', and
'cable select'. The main drive needs to be the master. When I put the jumper
on the master setting, I can't start the system without a removable drive in
it. If I set the jumper on single I can't use any of the removable drives.
I want to be able to start the system regardless of what is in the
carrier,(no drive, or any of th drives). I don't need/want to have a second
drive in the system all the time. I don't want to have to open the computer
and change jumpers every time I want to use or not use, a removable drive.
That was my whole reason for using the carriers in the first place.
Any ideas of what I can do to get around this problem.

Thank you
