Let me suggest that you install the Opera browser if you
don't already have it. It has a really nice tool for
when you are developing web pages. Go to Opera.com,
select Free Download. Look for the link that says
"Show other languages and platforms" to get the
appropriate Linux version.
Opera has an very direct way of getting your HTML code
validated by W3.org. The error messages are displayed
at the top with references by line number, and then the
whole HTML source is repeated below showing the line
numbers. Normally you'd just attack the first error
that was displayed and see how many messages go away,
then try again ...
When I have a page that is simply not displaying right,
very often it turns out that I have a missing or broken
tag and the validator takes me right to it.
When viewing your page, press Ctrl-Alt-V,
or right-click in the page and select Frames > Validate.
(If it nags you for permission to send your page contents,
you can pre-set an option to just do it.)
I understand there is a way to do this on Mozilla as
well, but it's an extra install and anyway it could
certainly not get any easier than what Opera has.
Good luck,
Vic
