If you can determine what motherboard is installed, you can look up the type
of memory it takes. Usually I reboot and write down the numbers that flash on
the bottom of the screen and look them up on google. If you can't crack the
hood or reboot I'm not sure what options you have.
You might be able to figure it out from the chipset listed in memtest:
http://www.memtest.org/
I find that rebooting at 3am is usually not noticed :)
