Mike,

I'd recommend the books and free white papers published by www.sans.org.
Here's a link to their Linux security white papers:

http://www.sans.org/rr/catindex.php?cat_id=32

Most of their stuff is very hands-on, how-to, with step by step
instructions. They have a great book available called Securing Linux: A
Survival Guide for Linux Security. It's geared toward Red Hat, but I
haven't had any problems moving their suggestions to Mandrake, SuSE, or
Debian systems. And unlike a lot of other computer books, it doesn't use
space on issues such as the history of the internet. :-) I ordered it
directly from SANS, but I can't find it on their own web site now! Here it
is on Amazon:

I'd also recommend Hacking Linux Exposed, by Brian Hatch and James Lee.

Bill

Subject: good Linux security book/guide

Hi all, I am relatively new to Linux and am looking for a good reference
book on Linux security. I do have a fair amount of experience with security
in a windows environment but am looking for something that is more specific
to Linux. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
~mike
