My only experiences with sftp were accidental...they apparently launched
when I tried to use 'scp' which seemed to automatically shift the system
into sftp mode - I did nothing to configure...it just happened. That was
the impression that I got from the man page...that it is not something
that you can force it to interact or a daemon in it's own space.
