As I have announced on the list, I am a happy user of Fedora and recently
installed KDE 3.2. I am pleased with results I have had so far. However,
after a recent migration to a new hard drive, the printer is very flakey, at
best.
In a nut shell, I print something, see the job go into the queue, see the job
go out of the queue but nothing happens at the printer. I have played with
various configuration methods and stuff but am having no luck figuring this
out. I don't understand the print process or driver "stack" well enough to
understand where the hole is. I used to work fine but now...
Here is what I have:
- Full clean install on brand new hard disk.
- Fedora Core 1 install from CD
- Latest Fedora Core official updates via up2date and yum
- Update to KDE 3.2 via Fedora RPMs downloaded from kde.org
- Printer is Epson C40UX - vanilla USB inkjet printer
- Using CUPS as print system.
- Using gimp-print driver
- Printing configured via KDE Print Config.
- Printer is visible in /proc/bus/usb/devices and via usbview
- Epson Inkjet Printer Utilities will run the "Clean print head" and "Print
nozzle test pattern" just fine.
BUT, print jobs just go away as complete without ever getting to the printer!
Any debugging thoughts out there? I'm in the IRC channel right now if you
want to chat with me there.
Alan
