I always thought of ntpdate as the user run program and ntpd as the
daemon. I definitely recommend having a time server on any network - one
which polls the level 2 time server and then use that machine to sync
all the system clocks on the local lan. Makes NFS/Windows/Mac's all work
in harmony.
