"status of various pieces"
Each piece has only one status; supported or not, presumably.

The Linux USB site maintains a list of the support statuses (statii?) of
various pieces of USB hardware, including USB wireless NICs. Check this
out: http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdevcat.php?id=16

You should be able to install the Oracle client software (which I think
includes SQL*Plus) on Linux. And there is at least one SQL
Worksheet-like
GUI: http://devel-home.kde.org/~ksqlplus/.

I've been using Fedora since FC1 was released last Fall. So far, it has
worked really well for me. I use it as my personal workstation/server
at
home. I use it to surf the web, read and send email, serve up some
personal
webpages (HTML, PHP, Perl/CGI), serve up IMAP mail to the other machines
on
my LAN, act as a web proxy to the other machines on my LAN, burn and rip
CDs, play MP3s, FLACs and SHNs and download photos from my digital
camera.
I've been frustrated trying to print to my Canon S900 color printer, but
that problem is not unique to Fedora. And getting some plugins (e.g.
RealPlayer) to work in Mozilla has proven to be more trouble than it
should.
Other than those minor inconveniences, everything else has worked very
well
for me.

I suppose you should take this with a grain of salt. I've been using
Red
Hat since RH 4.2, and generally like what they do. If you're
predisposed to
disliking Red Hat, you may hate Fedora, too.

HTH. YMMV.
