Subject: tar -M dilema
Who says programers don't have a sense of humor:

root@bmike1:/mnt# tar -czf config
tar: Cowardly refusing to create an empty archive
Try `tar --help' for more information.
root@bmike1:/mnt#

i decided to tar this file and then to save it to another HD. This, as you can
see was unsuccessful.

I just read 'http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/tar.html' and found the manual---
more later!

Ahhhh! I just learned that it is not possible to use -z and -M together!
so let's try going into the directory and taring from there.
. . . .
bmike1@bmike1:~/.kde/share/config$ tar -czf /home/knoppix/.kde/config.tar.z
tar: Cowardly refusing to create an empty archive
Try `tar --help' for more information.
bmike1@bmike1:~/.kde/share/config$
. . . .

bmike1@bmike1:~/.kde/share/config$ tar -czf config.tar.z
tar: Cowardly refusing to create an empty archive
Try `tar --help' for more information.
. . .
Perhaps the order matters
bmike1@bmike1:~/.kde/share/config$ tar -cfz config.tar
tar: config.tar.z: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Error exit delayed from previous er
. . . .
bmike1@bmike1:~/.kde/share$ tar -cfz config
bmike1@bmike1:~/.kde/share$

and that did it!
. . . .
but i can't find the file even with locate after updatedb! What a bother!
(actually I re-did it after adding a readme file telling where to unpack it,
but can't find the new tar file)
(actually this is just a redo because I forgot to put a readme into it to
remind me where it belongs because I'm drunk right now and doubt that I'll
remember where oit goes when I get wise) (what am I talking about.... I am
never wise. A wise-guy perhaps)
Could some one help me find it?
