Mandrake 9.2 installation question

Having recently read some good stuff regarding Mandrake 9.2 on the list,
I wonder if there is a means of installing it on my laptop, Dell
Inspiron 1100, which has an LG cdrom. I don;t want to risk killing the
Cdrom.
