For any that want to know what I did exactly  I typed 
    sudo shutdown -h +2
which gave a warning for shutdown when I executed the progam then gave me a 
warning at the 1 minute mark and then gave me a 1 minute halt warning after 
the shutdown happened. So for those on dial up if you have a big download 
convert the 2 into the minutes left in the download and it will powerdown 
after the download. (you might want to add .5 - 1 hour for network errors)
