If you are having intermittent problems, the easiest way to eliminate the
problems is to have your line vendor, whomever it might be, perform
intrusive test on your line. This is a 2 part process.

1. You want to ask them to loop up the NIU (Some companies call it the smart
jack) from the CO. This test tests to make sure that the line is good to
the DMARC (your buildings main telephone room).

2. Next you want them to loop up your equipment from the CO and run test
patterns to your equipment. This will test your inside wiring (IW) and your
equipment as one. This does not distinguish between problems with your IW
and router.

* Both of these tests should be run for 30 minutes or more.

If the second test comes back bad, you will need to test the IW and your
equipment. (This requires you to put a hard loop on the line at the DMARC
pointing to your equipment and running test from the jack that your
equipment is plugged into. You would usually have your line vendor do this
test as well.)

Good Luck.
