tn3270 and Linux

I have installed 3270-common although I need a 3270 emulator for linux
to use in non X enviroment. When I try to use telnet I get "appliaction
name" error and after installing the program I can not just use tn3270
or 3270 as a program the only executable I see installed is
/usr/bin/x3270if
