the new kernel

I was once advised that I shouldn't download .0 files (as in the new kernel
being 2.6.0) because they tend to be buggy. Now what this person was refering
to was a distribution (Mandrake at the time).

Would the same rule apply to the kernel? Should I wait for 2.6.1?
