Subject: Issues Lirc
I'm running gentoo, I did emerge lirc. I don't have a serial port declared
so now ttysx neither a /dev/lirc directory. I have ran modeprobe
lirc_serial and this is the error I get

/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/misc/lirc_serial.o: init_module: Input/output
error
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/misc/lirc_serial.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/misc/lirc_serial.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/misc/lirc_serial.o: insmod lirc_serial failed

I am just confused on what I should have on gentoo to get this thing to
work. Do I need a serial port. If so do I need to go through the process
of setting it up or is there a short command to do this.

If I don't need a serial port. What do I use instead and what should I be
looking for?

Thanks all,

Ben
