Nice, love to hear that. Yeah it is home built. So when I run mode2 and it
says "error opening /dev/lirc", "No such file or directory" from which I
understand is supposed to link to /dev/ttySx, what should I do to fix it?

When I said homebuilt, I was referring to the receiver. You can now
reread the original e-mail in the context intended.
