Try: "updatedb --version"

Do you have an /etc/mtab file?
By default, updatedb doesn't include network filesystems in its locate
database.
updatedb usually uses find with the -fstype switch.
Also try running updatedb as a non-root user (because updatedb has
different functionality when root).
Maybe try with:
updatedb --localuser=nobody
Or:
su nobody -c updatedb
