TVs generally can't do better than 640x480. You're probably going to have to
set it up as "640x480 with a virtual desktop the size of Canada"
I'm thinking of hanging a ca. 1983 monochrome composite monitor off my TV
out... probably looks neat to see X11 in amber-and-black.
