xbox hd reformat?

I've aquired a 40G HD that used to be in an Xbox. Is there any way to ref=
ormat=20
this so that I can use it in a Linux boxen?=20
I've tried to add it as an extra hd to my RH 9.0 -wouldn't read it.
Mandrake 9.1 tried to install but erred out on secondary install section.
tried to read on win98 - wouldn't even recognize it.
tried to install winXP - blank screen w/ blinking cursor.
Even tried to do a dos install - blank screen w/ blinking cursor.
Is this hd doomed to the trash heap?
