       update-alternatives --config <name>
<name> is the name in /etc/alternatives.
<path> is the name referred to.
<link> is the link pointing to /etc/alternatives/<name>.
<priority> is an integer; options with higher numbers are chosen.

Options:  --verbose|--quiet  --test  --help  --version
          --altdir <directory>  --admindir <directory>
$ update-alternatives --display editor
editor - status is manual.
 link currently points to /usr/bin/vim
/bin/ae - priority 20
 slave editor.1.gz: /usr/man/man1/ae.1.gz
/usr/bin/nvi - priority 19
 slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/nvi.1.gz
/bin/elvis-tiny - priority 10
 slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/elvis-tiny.1.gz
/bin/ed - priority -100
 slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/ed.1.gz
/usr/bin/vim - priority 120
 slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/vim.1.gz
/usr/bin/pico - priority 40
 slave editor.1.gz: /usr/man/man1/pico.1.gz
/usr/bin/e3em - priority 10
 slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/e3em.1.gz
Current `best' version is /usr/bin/vim.

Use --config to change things.
