es I have found some how to pages but none that explain that aspect.

You need to load the kernel modules and add rules.

Is this for a standalone box? If so, use firestarter, which requires a GUI
on the box that will be running the iptables rules.

If this is for a NAT or something more than 'protect itself', then look at
fwbuilder. I've not played with it, but I have had people tell me it's a
great tool.

BTW, Michael, who did the Doug Engelbart presentation, has volunteered to d=
o
an fwbuilder presentation, so watch for that in the next few months.
