I have had check ID on my cards for several years and so has my wife. Neither of us has ever been turned down for a sale because of that. In fact many cashiers (we both used to cashier at Home Depot) AND bank tellers have complemented us on doing so.

I have heard from a cashier or teller that if you only put "check ID" in the
signature area of a credit card it can be refused as payment. This is
because there is no original signature on the card to compare with the
picture ID and the receipt. It was suggested that I put my signature on it
"and" check ID both. Picking a lock that has only one set of tumblers is not
that hard if you have the right tools. Tools, I might add, that can be
purchased real easily from many places. I have made myself a simple lock
pick out of 2 large bobby pins and I carry them in my wallet so that I can
pick my house or desk locks if I forget my keys, something I am ashamed to
say I have done a couple of times.
Hope you get out of this easy.
Cliff
