Sometimes I find xpdf just places dots when it can't render some text (or

xpdf does allow copy (for copying-and-pasting text) which is useful.

Even when Abiword saves as "Word Documents" or .doc format, the file is
really in Rich Text Format too. RTF has worked fine for me for years. I
use it to submit my articles I write for some magazines. (Written in
Abiword or kword.)

Also for instant messaging, my mom and sister use tik (tcl). My mom has
used it for a few years. I use Everybuddy sometimes.

Over a year ago, I wrote an article for BSD Today called "It has Excel and
Word" (It was about: "A couple weeks ago, I switched my in-laws from
Windows to NetBSD. This article covers a half-day experience with
installing and preparing it for their use.") That website is now dead.
