Samba client and file time and date problem

Problem:
The time and date stamp of a file editted and saved to a Windows 2000
Professional share from a Linux box is not updated. How do I make it
update the time and date?

Enviornment:
- Windows 2000 Professional sharing a directory
- Red Hat Linux 7.3
- Both boxes sync time from same server
- Win2k share mounted via smbmount version 2.2.7, manually from the
command line
- Load file from the mounted share into editor, make changes, save the file

Result:
- On Linux box, date and time for saved file not changed
- On Win2k box, date and time for saved file not changed
