floppy

i had something similar happen. it was the hardware. new floppy
drive;
no problem.... worth a try.

i had spent hours trying to get the old one to work... thought it
was a linux problem ; haha on me when it was MY problem for not
trying the new drive sooner.

good luck. i know this is frustrating.
