I did the same with an old IBM 310 (read- boat anchor). If you
install OpenBSD, turning it into a wireless-bridge firewall
is a snap.
I have an Orinoco card and a 10/100 card in it. The wireless
card is self-explanitory as it communicates with another
openBSD box upstairs at the other end of the house (main firewall).
The 10/100 card is plugged into a hub in the garage. I use
this for the kids in the 'hood' to get on the net if the need to
or if someone comes over with a PC to work on. I come from
a family of mechanics, so we keep the work out of the house
and do it in the garage :-)
