Many common mozilla problems are actually caused by poor installation.
Make sure that your old copy of mozilla is completely removed prior to
installing the new one. On windows this is extremely important. On linux
it often happens that a couple of copies of it or its libraries get
installed which causes the problems. You can save your settings files
but make sure the program files get removed and reinstalled.
Calendar, spellchecker, and other addons typically cause lots of
problems if they are for a slightly different version so make sure you
install the ones for the version you are using.
We have mozilla 1.4 on dozens of machines and have found it more stable
than most other releases, both windows and linux.
