UDF support in the 2.4.18 kernel is by default read-only, and intended for
reading DVD-ROM disks. The write support is buggy so is turned off by
default. There are kernel patches that add more reliable write support.
The udftools are also necessary in order to format your UDF filesystem.
However, while they will format your UDF filesystem, you then need kernel UDF
write support in order to actually mount your filesystem as rw (read-write)
rather than ro (read-only).
