Switching to Gnome on Slackware

See if you have a xwmconfig tool.

Or just manually edit your .xinitrc file to start your choice.

Also, see if you have /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.gnome. If so, you could use
it (or symlink to it from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc).
