Subject: Re: using KPPP?
I think that I found the problem=2E I got an error message that told me some=
thing about pppd so I looked in the manpages about it=2E I found a section t=
hat said to connect with M$ servers I had to add some lines to a file called=
/etc/ppp/options/fR
I investigated with vi and discovered that there was no so-named file,
So I created the file and at the end ':wq' The response that I received was =
"'/etc/ppp/options/fR' E212: Can't open file for=3D
writing"=2E
If you could tell me if I am on the right track and how to create the file I=
would appreciate it=2E Another question I have about this is which option(s=
) I should put?
Here is what the man pages say:
To enable full featured Microsoft encryption you must add those options to y=
our /etc/ppp/options/fR file=2E
+chapms
+chapms-v2
mppe-40
mppe-128
mppe-stateless
To authenticate client with Microsoft CHAP version 1 or 2, you need to use t=
hose options=2E
auth
+chap
+chapms
+chapms-v2
To make possible to authenticate itself with Microsoft CHAP version 1 or 2,
you need to add those options=2E
+chapms
+chapms-v2

Sure=2E=2E=2E many times=2E Haven't with 9=2E1 yet but at least a couple ti=
mes with
Mdk 9=2E0 and going all the the way back to RH 6=2E
I have friends currently using it w/ 8=2E2 and 9=2E0=2E
The only time I have seen connection problems like you desribed was while
using incorrect combinations of modem/init string=2E (Negotiations would fail=
during auth and the startup of ppp)

A "few" is an indefinitely small number that conveys a qualitative sense of a=
quantity, but not quantitative fact=2E
