gimp & printing

Have been using the Gimp for image manipulation.
Very happy with its power as a program. Am not too happy with the
printing part of the program. Am I missing something - i haven't been
able to do things like put several images on a page, make a collage
page, manipulate the images on the page to be printed. I know i am
missing how to do this somewhere.
Any advice welcomed.
