evolution - sending mail

I'm getting the following error on sending mail:
Error while performing operation:
SMTP server pop.sttl.qwest.net does not support requested authentication
type PLAIN.

My setup is such that I receive mail on my earthlink account (works
fine), but I'm hooked to my son-in-law's DSL account on qwest where I
have a different uid/pwd. I can send ok via netscape, but evolution I
can't get to work.
