Lots of great suggestions. One note of caution - make sure your hardware
will support the distribution you want to use.
For example, I could not install RH, SuSe, or Mandrake on an older computer
because (1) I had to install over the net because I could not use the
floppy and CD at the same time and the CD was not bootable; and (2) I did
not have enough memory for the net installation of these distros. However,
Debian installed flawlessly over the net and runs my little webserver very
well.
OpenBSd and FreeBSD worked well, too, but then that is a different
story......

Subject: Linux flavor help......
<< File: ATT00000.htm >>
Greetings All,
I'm still somewhat a newbie to the Linux world but I'm moving forward
rapidly. I am currently establishing a Linux box at home for some serious
training. I would very much like to hear some opinions from users as to
what a good "flavor" for me to start out with would be. I hear pros and
cons about them all. I have narrowed it down to Red Hat, SuSe or Mandrake.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
