Thanks Craig. Could you let me know what 'udatedb' did when I ran it? I b=
et it=20
updates the file listing. Does this mean that it keeps a current file lis=
ting=20
that is updated with 'updatedb' and that it looks at that list and the ne=
w=20
files on the HD when you do a 'locate' or 'find'?

Also

I would put the vmlinuz created by the tarball of the kernel I compiled b=
ut it=20
did not do that. I followed all of the steps that I was given in my 'Runn=
ing=20
Linux' book but it did not create vmlinuz (if that is the program that yo=
u=20
boot with). Following is the directory that was created by the tar ball:

[root@localhost linux-2.4.20]# ls
arch/           drivers/  ipc/         Makefile  REPORTING-BUGS  vmlinux*
COPYING         fs/       kernel/      mm/       Rules.make
CREDITS         include/  lib/         net/      scripts/
Documentation/  init/     MAINTAINERS  README    System.map
=20
the 'vmlinux' is green. Does the astrix indicate that I am supposed to us=
e=20
that file after changing it's name?

I anxiously await your answer.
